Our Mission
Our mission is to lead collective climate action, education, and outreach in Door County.
Our VISION
We envision a resilient world with communities actively working together to sustain a stable climate.
Our VALUES
Science. We rely on science and scientific evidence to understand the climate crisis, to inform our climate education programs, and to guide our actions.
Justice. The impacts of climate change are not felt equally across our community, and often disproportionately affect vulnerable and marginalized communities. We support equitable solutions as we work to reduce the harms of the climate crisis.
Community. The climate crisis is a global challenge that requires all levels of society to work together toward solutions. Local communities have unique and critical roles, responsibilities, and power to effect the change we need.
Inclusivity. The climate crisis is nonpartisan. We create opportunities for everyone to participate, and welcome and value all contributions to our efforts.
Collaboration. Door County has many groups and individuals whose work intersects with ours. We seek opportunities to share, collaborate, and amplify our collective action. We know people working together have the power to solve the climate crisis.
Creativity. The climate crisis requires a solutions-oriented mindset and openness to new ideas. We value the creativity needed to work toward a stable and resilient climate.
WHat we Believe
Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time—impacting communities everywhere, including right here in Door County. The scale can feel overwhelming, but the science is clear: solutions are within reach, and the time to act is now. By taking bold, immediate action, we can protect our families, our community, and our planet from the worst effects of climate change. Each of us has a vital role to play in building a more sustainable future—and it starts today, right here, with each of us.
Climate Change Coalition of Door County creates opportunities for individuals, businesses, partner organizations, and local governments to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to a changing climate, and build a resilient Door County. We do this in 3 ways:
Climate Action: We help local individuals, businesses, and governments reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a more climate-resilient community through discounted renewable energy options, composting initiatives, and tree-planting campaigns.
Climate Awareness & Education: We create spaces where community members and climate leaders can discuss, learn, and implement science-based strategies that lessen the impact of climate change on our community.
Climate Resilience Planning: We convene community stakeholders to develop long-term, science-based strategies that help Door County prepare for and mitigate the impact of climate change on our community.
Inspiring Acton
In 2019, Wisconsin’s Governor, Tony Evers, created a Climate Change Task Force lead by Lt. Governor Barnes. CCCDC is grateful to the Governor for its creation and has submitted a list of recommendations to substantially reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and improve public health through reduced air and water pollution.

What WE DO
CCCDC works to raise awareness of climate change in Door County and beyond through a variety of channels focused on the important collateral benefits of climate action, including:
A year-round speaker series
Participation in environmental events (Celebrate Water, Every Day is Earth Day, Sustainability Fair)
Contributions to the Peninsula Pulse
Outreach to schools and faith-based organizations (spring and fall tree plantings)
A growing social media presence (website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube)
Regular communication (broadcast emails, program posters, flyers, media releases, letters to the editor)
Significant support of our business community (Door County Business Climate Declaration)
Collaboration with other organizations (The Nature Conservancy, Crossroads at Big Creek, Door County Land Trust, etc)
Where We Live
Climate Change Coalition and the greater Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership humbly acknowledge what is now known as eastern Wisconsin as part of the ancestral homeland of the Menominee Nation. We recognize the Menominee as well as more recent Nations that have lived and thrived on this land that we love and celebrate. As we work to cultivate conservation, collaboration, and community, we recognize the Indigenous peoples as the original and longest-serving caretakers of this land. We respect their traditional ecological knowledge and reverence for the natural world and seek to honor those values and priorities as we continue to steward the shared land and water of Wisconsin’s Lakeshore region.
